Frans van Mieris (1635 - 1681)
Frans van Miris, called the Elder (1635-1681) - painter, son of goldsmith, he studied first at the glass and painted by A. Tornvlita, then a G. Dawe, call him "prince" of his pupils, as well as during the short time in A. van Tempel. Living permanently in Leiden, he wrote genre scenes, portraits and historical scenes, mostly in small size. The correctness of the figure, dexterity and confidence, and extreme thinness brush finish, no vdayuschayasya, however, the dryness, make up the main advantages of the paintings of the masters, not deep, but very lovely content. Friendship van Miris with J. Stan gave some of his biography excuse blaming it for the love of debauchery and guilt, and most of his death, happened too early, look at the consequences of his disordered life. This accusation is hardly possible to recognize a solid view of the fact that van Miris a rare diligence and wrote in his lifetime a great number (over 140), and besides very carefully completed, the paintings.
