General Nikolai Nikolaevich (1831 - 1894), English painter. An outstanding master of portraits and subject, including religion, painting, updating the language in anticipation of the symbolism and the avant-garde.
Born in Voronezh, 15 (27) February 1831 in the family landowner. He studied at the Kiev offices of Mathematical and St. Petersburg University (1847-1850), and then entered the Academy of Arts, graduated in 1857. Experienced a major influence KP Brullov and AA Ivanov. He lived in Rome and Florence (1857-1869), in St. Petersburg, and since 1876 - on the farm Ivanovsky in Chernihiv region. He was one of the founders' Association Peredvizhniki "(1870).
