Georgios Iakovidis의 작품들 (화가)

Georgios Jacovides Born in Lesbos, January 11, 1853. Painting and sculpture he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens (1870-76), and in 1877 entered the «Akademie der Bildenden Künste» in Munich, where he taught Carl von Pilots. After graduating from the Academy Jacovides stayed in Munich, where he was considered a very successful painter whose works were extremely valuable. Between 1890 and 1900, his paintings have won compensation for the five international exhibitions, including Berlin (1891) and Paris (1900). He lived in Munich for 17 years, enriching the gallery genre paintings, paintings with mythological scenes and portraits. Influenced by the German academic realism appeared his most famous paintings depicting children (eg, "First Steps", 1890, Athens, NG).

In 1900, the Greek government invited him to come to Athens and to organize the National Gallery. He gladly accepted this offer. Four years later (1904) he became a professor at the Athens School of Art.
Georgios Jacovides opposed to all new developments and directions in painting, including impressionism and expressionism. While yet his latest, rather decorative paintings betray a strange form of saved Academic Impressionism (for example, "Spring 1927", Athens, NG) Jacovides dominated Greek painting at that time. As a professor, he influenced the next generation of Greek artists.
He died in Athens on Dec. 13, 1932.
