Willem de Beer has been involved in painting since childhood and taught the basics of oil painting of his father, who himself was a popular amateur painter. His first oil painting was sold to a local attorney in his native town, when Willem was only 9 years old.
After studying at the University of Pretoria, he became a commercial artist.
In 1985 William spent all their time to become a professional artist. Since most of his works consist of painting wildlife.
