Jean-Francois Portela (niderl. Jean-François Portaels, genus. April 3, 1818 Vilvoorde - mind. February 8, 1895 Brussels, Belgium) - Belgian artist and Orientalist, Professor.

JF Portela, studied painting at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts under the leadership of Francois Naveza, then in Paris with Paul Delaroche. In 1842, the artist won the Grand Prix de Rome and travel around Europe and the Middle East. After returning home in 1847, has served as director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and opens his art studio. In 1874, Portela took a trip to Morocco, on his return heads the Brussels Academy of Painting.

JF Portela was plodovtitym artist. In addition to paintings on the East, he painted portraits, paintings of historical and religious themes. Also served as the artwork for the Cathedral of St.. James, in Brussels. Portela works are neoclassical and romantic style of painting. His work has influenced the development of the Belgian school of art.
