John French, English photographer. Born March 1, 1907 in Edmonton, London.
Initially he worked as a commercial artist, then became director in an advertising studio, just before the Second World War, during which he served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards Regiment.
In 1942 he married Vera Denning (1910-91), fashion journalist.
In 1948 he founded his own studio. Working initially with the Daily Express, he became the founder of a new form of fashion photography. He also did portraits.
John French has died of lymphoma in the Royal Marsden Hospital July 21, 1966.
