Vlastimil Hofman (April 27, 1881 Prague - March 6, 1970 Szklarska Poreba)

Polish artist. He was the youngest of six children of Ferdinand and Theophile Hoffman. In 1889 the family moved to Krakow. In 1895 he attended lectures on the theory of the figure in the studio Florian Kuhnke. At age 16 he entered the School of Vlastimil figure, where he studied under Jacek Malchevskiy, Leon and Yana Vychulkovskogo Stanislavsky
in 1896 - 1898, respectively.
In 1899 went to Paris, where he studied at the Graduate School of Fine Arts with Jean-Leon Gerome.
From 1902 began to exhibit his work. In 1906, work has been shown in Warsaw and brought the artist fame.
Hoffman was closely associated with the Polish Society of Artists "Art" and the group of Czech artists, "Manes," and in 1905 organized a group of artists in Warsaw «Pieciu».
In 1914 - 1917 lived in Prague and then to 1920 in Paris.
In 1920 he returned to Krakow.
In 1939, over a peaceful life, and Hoffman was forced to emigrate in Volhynia in Istanbul. During World War II, he lived in Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
In Krakow back in 1946. The following year he left the big city, alone in a small town Szklarska Poreba and settled in a wooden cottage. Here he organized a colony of artists. He earned a living by painting portraits of tourists and locals.
He died March 6, 1970, survived only two years his wife Ada, which linked his life back in 1919.
Hoffman was a representative of late-era Polish symbolism. He was one of the most talented students, and an ardent follower Jacek Malchevskiy.
