Henry Raeburn (1756 - 1823)

(Raeburn, Henry) (1756-1823), Scottish painter and portraitist. Born March 4th, 1756 in Stokbridzhe, near Edinburgh. His artistic career started as a goldsmith, but soon began to learn painting from David Martin. In 1778 costoclavicular went to Italy, from this trip, he returned to Edinburgh in 1787 is already a mature master. By this time the true portrait of McNab, in which a broad, short strokes to convey clearly the constructive structure of human body. In 1812 The rib was elected president of the Royal Society of Artists in Edinburgh, and three years later became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts. In 1822 he received a title of nobility and miniaturist, was appointed by His Majesty in Scotland.
He died in the rib Stokbridzhe 8 Jul., 1823.
